The Mojito was created in the 16th century ( around 1586) when the English explorer Francis Drake, between two lootings of Havana, sipped mint leaves crushed with Tafia.
In the 20th century, the original recipe evolved: Tafia was replaced by rum and lime came to decorate the mixture. Thus was born the Mojito known today. In 1920, the Mojito became a true emblem of Cuban culture: it was elevated to the rank of "national cocktail of CUBA". The cocktail ended up being exported first to the USA and then to EUROPE, before being prepared in the most bars around the world.
